Aegean Regatta
September 4th - 11th 2004
The Aegean Regatta is an international yacht race organized by the ministry of Aegean since 2001 with great success. In the organization of 2004 two new novelties will be applied : for the first time an island from Cyclades will be included while there is going to be a change in the month that the Regatta is going to take place. From the usual month of August “the Aegean Regatta” will be organized on September.
After the meeting of the organizing commitee it has been decided that «the Aegean Regatta» will start from Andros, an island with rich naval tradition and the sailing boats will go to Chios, Pithagorio of Samos, Lipsi and will finish the race in Patmos.
Furthermore, because of the prosecution of the Olympic Games (13-20 August), the Regatta was assigned to 4th until the 11th of September, continuing so the festive atmosphere that will be diffused in Greece from the Olympic Games.
The Aegean Regatta is organized every year by the Ministry of Aegean with the assistance of the Undersecretariat of State for Sports and with the co-operation of the Hellenic Offshore Committee.
Valuable is the help of the Nautical Club of Andros, the Nautical Club of Chios, the Athletic Club of Aegean, the Nautical Club of Samos, the ASIATH of Rhodes, the LOIATH of Mytilene and also the municipalities of the islands (Andros, Chios, Samos, Lipsoi, Lesvos).
The last year’s organization besides from the setup success, it had also the largest number of participants with 86 sailing boats. Many cultural and artistic events that took place in last year’s organization elevated the magnitude of the Aegean Sea.
So we are looking forward to see you to Andros on September 2004…
